6 ❘ LOS CAB LIFE ❘ SEPTEMBER 2019 F itness has always been a way of life for Ralph Stansbury. The retired high school teacher and wrestling coach was a highly suc- cessful wrestler at Westminster High School, Golden West College and Long Beach State, and has maintained his commitment to fit- ness ever since. He was a member of the Orange County Wrestling Of- ficials Association for 25 years, and in 2015 was inducted into the Cali- fornia Wrestling Hall of Fame. For an athlete who never seems to slow down, having a great place to work out is a must, and Stansbury has been a fixture at Los Caballeros Sports Village for nearly four decades. We caught up with him after a recent workout to learn more about his passion for fitness and for Los Cab. ◆ ◆ ◆ How old are you and how long have you been a member at Los Cab? I'm 72 years old and have been working out at Los Cab since 1981. ◆ ◆ ◆ Why has fitness been important to you? Fitness has really been a lifestyle for me. It's a habit more than anything else, but I like it be- cause you stay fit and it makes you feel great. It has absolutely served me well in terms of my overall health. ◆ ◆ ◆ How did you end up joining Los Cab, and why have you stayed for nearly 40 years? One Christmas, my wife bought me a membership to a place called Los Caballeros and I had never even heard of it. I decided to give it a try. I like it because it's a great family club. I think that the family atmosphere, more than any- thing else, is what has kept me com- ing back. ◆ ◆ ◆ How have you seen the club change over the years? I've seen it grow tremendously. When I first joined it was basically just a weight room. It seems to me like they're al- ways trying to improve the fitness area with the latest machinery.
