APRIL 2019 ❘ LOS CAB LIFE ❘ 3 POLAR EXPRESS ......................... UP TO THE CHALLENGE! L os Cab's annual Polar Bear Challenge gave swimmers plenty of incentive to get in the pool during January and February – and some of the numbers posted were truly incredible. John LaBriola led all members with 212 miles logged during the two months (an average of more than 3.5 miles per day), and 10 other participants finished with more than 60 miles swam or hours of classes. Other top achievers included Robbie Wyatt (104 miles), Mike Selna (100 miles) and Henry Michaels (89 miles). "I'm a swimmer myself, so I can safely say that these numbers are awesome," said Fitness Director Marianne Grossman. "These swimmers are a dedicated bunch." The Polar Bear Challenge attracted approximately 110 participants, with all those registering at least 25 miles or hours receiving a commemo- rative long-sleeve T-shirt. "The results were espe- cially impressive since Febru- ary was so chilly," Grossman said. "The pool deck was 40 degrees on some mornings." L indsay Palmer has been a fa- miliar face around Los Cab Sport Village for more than two decades – and she's been enjoy- ing every minute of it. "Time flies when you're having fun!" said the club's Sales Manager and Desks Supervisor, who's cele- brating her 21st year on the job this month. "I love the whole atmosphere here. I walk into work every day and it feels like home. We have incredi- ble members and the staff here is great. I enjoy being surrounded by such a fabulous group of people." Here's what else we learned during a recent interview… ◆ ◆ ◆ What are your primary respon- sibilities at Los Cab? I make the schedules and hire and train the staff. I also work as a membership salesperson. ◆ ◆ ◆ What is the one thing about your job that most people would not know? That we are not into high-pressure sales here. The sales staff here believes the club speaks for itself. We are here to give you a great customer-service experience and provide all the information you need without feeling any pressure. ◆ ◆ ◆ What are some of the benefits of being a member at Los Cab? Where do I start? We have an in- credible Olympic-sized pool, tons of group fitness classes that are in- cluded with all memberships, a huge fitness center, our child care is amazing, and we offer tennis, rac- quetball, squash and even pickle- ball. I could go on and on. ◆ ◆ ◆ What is the No. 1 thing you'd like someone to know who is con- sidering a membership? That we have something for everyone. We offer such a wide array of sports and fitness options that it's easy to find what you are looking for. ◆ ◆ ◆ What is your favorite thing about Los Cab? The members! I have worked here for so long and have formed so many great friendships with our members. ◆ ◆ ◆ What is one thing someone might be surprised to know about you?
