2 ❘ LOS CAB LIFE ❘ DECEMBER 2018 ● ON THE COURTS MAKING MEMORIES ■ LOS CAB SQUAD COMPETES ON THE NATIONAL STAGE A team of tennis players representing Los Cab traveled to the USTA 40-and-over 7.0 Mixed-Doubles Championships in Orlando from November 16-18. And while they didn't come home with the winning trophy, the adventure proved to be a memorable expe- rience for those who participated. The team that competed in the event at the USTA's national campus was comprised of all Los Cab members except for one, and included Cindy Chao, Johnny Cheng, Amy Ching, Nicole Doan, captain Calvin Lam, Mark Nguyen, Ryan Nguyen, Sally Scott and Ly Troung. Los Cab was one of 17 teams participating in the event and played four matches before falling shy of the semifinals. By luck of the draw, the Los Cab team had one of the more competitive schedules of any squad there – three of the four teams they faced ended up mak- ing it to the semis, including the eventual tournament champion. "We didn't feel too badly knowing that the teams we lost to were strong teams that did really well," said Johnny Cheng. "We did beat the team from Northern California, so I guess we're still the best team in the state." They also arrived back with some pretty special memories. "We had a great time. Every- one got to play, so we can all come home and say we com- peted in nationals," Cheng said. "It was amazing to play at the USTA campus. I had never played anywhere as impressive."
