SEPTEMBER 2018 ❘ LOS CAB LIFE ❘ 3 KIDS NIGHT OUT ......................... OUT OF THIS WORLD K ids of the Galaxy will be the theme of the next Kids Night Out at Los Cab Sports Village, sched- uled for September 14 from 6-9:30 p.m. Parents can enjoy an evening to themselves and drop off their children (ages 9 months to 10 years) at Los Cab for supervised play and lots of fun. Typically 20-25 kids attend each event, and there is plenty of staff on hand to oversee activities. Each monthly Kids Night Out event includes dinner, dessert, games, prizes, crafts, a movie and an in- door bounce house. Among some of the favorite activi- ties for kids of various ages are musical chairs, hot po- tato, freeze dance and bingo. Kids of all ages enjoy indulging in popcorn while they watch the family- friendly movie toward the end of the night. ........................................... > VISIT loscab.com/child-care. T hree decades is a long time to stick with one job, and it goes without say- ing that you don't keep showing up year after year if you don't love it. For Marianne Grossman, the Group Fitness Program Di- rector at Los Cab, showing up is not only something she does every day, but something she in- spires students to do as well. Consistency is key in any fitness regimen, and she's a shining ex- ample of just that. How long have you worked at Los Cab? I began my career at Los Cab in October 1988 – this year will be 30 years! What does your job entail? I am responsible for running the group fitness classes. That includes all classes in the main studio, yoga and pilates, TRX and aqua classes. How did you first become in- volved in your line of work? I began my fitness career as a group instructor at the local YMCA. I taught there for a couple of years, then came to Los Cab and I've been here ever since. What does a typical day on the job look like for you? On most mornings I'm here very early either instructing or taking a class. I make sure all classes are covered on a weekly basis, and check weekly attendance. What do you enjoy most about working at Los Cab? I enjoy the members and staff at Los Cab. Also, I use our wonderful pool at least twice a week. What do you consider your greatest strength on the job? I like to connect with people and I try hard to listen. What is one thing about your job that most people would not know? Putting together a fitness schedule requires a lot of moving parts – the class time, instructor, format, day of the week, etc. It's a bit like a puzzle. You need to find the right format at the right time and get the right instructor. What is your No. 1 fitness tip? Consistency is so important. You can't start and stop and then start later. Just show up and keep show- ing up until it becomes ingrained in your routine. What do you consider your greatest achievement? Raising a family, longevity in my career and doing an Ironman triathlon in 2005. MEET MARIANNE GROSSMAN ............................................
