EVENT HONORS LOS CAB HANDBALL LEGEND TOM GILBERT
CELEBRATION
OF
LIFE
M
embers of the
handball commu-
nity will celebrate the life
of Tom Gilbert with a
special event on Sep-
tember 8. Held at Los
Cab each year around his
birthday, the day will fea-
ture a round-robin tour-
nament and the focus
will be on remembering
Gilbert's contributions to
the tight-knit local hand-
ball community.
Gary Cruz, who has
led the effort to organize
the event, expects about
100 attendees.
Gilbert, who brought
numerous handball play-
ers to Los Cab when a
nearby club closed in the
1970s, passed away in
September, 2015.
"All of a sudden, Los
Cab became the place to
be for handball players,"
Cruz said. "He ran a ton
of events and was very
influential."
