LABOR DAY POOL PARTY W hether swimming is your thing or you're more comfortable zipping fore- hand winners down the line, Los Cab members can send summer out on a high note at the club's annual Labor Day Pool Party and Tennis Doo-Dah on Monday, September 3. The pool party will in- clude a giant inflatable slide and food catered by local restaurants, in addition to games and contests – with back-to-school-themed prizes awarded to the win- ners. There is no cost for members to attend, and they can bring guests free of charge as well. Tennis players can partic- ipate in the Doo-Dah for $35, which includes a T-shirt or sweatshirt. The team event features squads made up of players of various skill levels, and focuses heavily on the fun, social aspect of the game rather than being ultra-competitive. ............................................... > CALL (714) 546-8560. A s many club mem- bers can attest, Benito Hernandez is the type of person who al- ways offers up an easy smile whenever you come in con- tact with him. It's no secret that he loves his job in the maintenance department at Los Cab Sports Village, and it's not difficult to see that he also relishes his time spent at the club as a tennis member. Here's what else we learned during a recent conversation: How long have you worked at Los Cab? I started work- ing at the club back in 1990. Tell us about your life away from the club? I live in Ana- heim and I am married, but do not have any kids. What are some of your best memories at Los Cab? There have been a lot of great things about my time spent at Los Cab, but some of my best memories at the club are meet- ing new people and making lifelong friends. How often do you play ten- nis at the club, and what's the best part of your game right now? I probably play about once a week – I'm ready whenever anyone needs a doubles partner. I don't really analyze my own game, but mostly just enjoy playing for fun. I really enjoy playing in the Doo-Dahs and Calcuttas. What do you like so much about Los Cab that you want to work here and be a tennis member? Everything! I just love tennis, and I love the community of people that I've gotten to know over the years. GROUP FITNESS SHAKE UP YOUR ROUTINE THIS SUMMER S ummer is typically a time when new fitness classes aren't offered at Los Cab, but that doesn't mean fitness fanatics can't break out of their routine a bit. With instructors taking summer vacations, often classes are led by someone new and changing things up can reinvigorate partici- pants. "For the members who attend class, it's an opportunity to have a different coach or instructor – and sometimes a change like that is a good thing, as each instructor has his or her own style," said the club's Fitness Director Marianne Grossman. > VISIT loscab.com/group-fitness.
