2 ❘ LOS CAB LIFE ❘ MARCH 2018 PUMP IT UP ................. BODYPUMP CLASSES I f you haven't tried Bodypump classes at Los Cab Sports Village, you're missing out on an increasingly popular way to get fit. The classes are offered every day except Thursday and are sched- uled at various times to accommodate most any member's busy lifestyle. They have been offered at the club since 2011 and have become among the most favored classes by those looking to com- bine fitness and fun. "Bodypump is the original barbell workout for strengthening the en- tire body," said Fitness Director Marianne Gross- man. "It uses the best weight-room exercises like squats, presses, lifts and curls to challenge all your major muscle groups." With the club's annual March Madness fitness challenge coming up and new music and choreog- raphy set to be released in April for use in Body- pump classes, it's a great time to consider trying something new. ......................................... > VISIT loscab.com/ group-fitness. ● AROUND THE CLUB CORE BELIEFS ■ PILATES MAT CLASSES NOW OFFERED SIX DAYS A WEEK L os Cab has added a new wrin- kle to its extensive fitness of- ferings this year – Pilates mat classes are now held six days a week. The classes, according to personal trainer Peggy Pocher, focus on the powerhouse of the body: the core. "This includes strengthening the abdominals and back muscles, and using the deep, smaller stabilizing muscles of the core," Pocher said. "We work on pelvic and shoulder stabilization and hip and shoulder joint mobilization. It is appropriate for all fitness levels, ages and defi- nitely beneficial for men and women. Pilates is for every 'body.' " Since proper form is critical, an emphasis is put on quality of move- ment, rather than quantity, which requires form, concentration and proper breathing. "Pilates lengthens and strength- ens, so you create long, lean muscles and gain flexibility, thereby creating a body less prone to injury," Pocher said. "It is a gentle, yet challenging, form of exercise." Pilates mat classes are now held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4:30 p.m., Mondays, Wednesdays and Fri- days at 9 a.m., as well as Tuesdays at 10 a.m., and Saturdays at 7:30 a.m. Classes are free to members. If interested, just come to the Pilates studio. There are a limited number of mats available, so members are encouraged to bring their own. ......................................................... > VISIT loscab.com/yoga-pilates.
