12 • THE DIVOT | SUMMER 2021 BY JEROME THORMANN, PGA GOLF PROFESSIONAL T he Junior Development Program has been a staple of El Niguel Country Club's o&erings for younger golfers for many years, giving kids the opportunity year-round to learn the basics of the game and establish a love for golf that lasts a lifetime. Members' children and grandchildren ages 6-12 are eligible to participate in 3ve-week sessions that focus on devel- oping fundamental skills with a golf club in their hands, as well as building strength of character and teaching life lessons that will serve them well beyond the fairways. The program has been successful be- cause it focuses on teaching junior golfers how to enjoy the game while learning a skill that will positively impact their lives in the short and long term. Instruction is o&ered by our golf pro- fessional sta& with a focus on physical fundamentals and the mental game. Kids who participate come away with impor- tant lessons, such as participating in a group setting, becoming a competitor and a team player, meeting new friends, learn- ing to win and lose, to respect the game, and more. Sessions run most of the year in 3ve- week increments, with the hour-long classes available Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. and Thursdays at 3:30 p.m. Each 3ve-week session is $125 to join. ....................................................................... > CLICK HERE to contact Jerome Thormann for more information.
