2 ❘ LOS CAB LIFE ❘ MARCH 2020 ● ON THE COURTS VICTORY LAP! ■ CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS FEATURE SPIRITED COMPETITION T ennis members brought their best stuff to the club for the Los Cab Singles and Mixed Dou- bles Championships February 22-23, with participants competing for brag- ging rights along with coveted club champion titles. An estimated 75 players took part in the event, with many competing in both singles and mixed doubles, ac- cording to Tracy Harris at the Tennis Desk, who said the competition was friendly but spirited. Champions were crowned in men's and women's singles for levels 3.5-4.5 as well as mixed doubles for levels 3.0-5.0, and there were age-group di- visions for 50-plus, 60-plus and 70- plus in the men's singles and mixed doubles competitions. Winners in the top divisions in- cluded Ron Brewer and Natalie Hill (mixed doubles 5.0), Dave Thompson (men's singles 4.5) and Khani Hyunh (women's singles 4.5). Participants enjoyed breakfast overlooking the courts each day and lunches catered by a taco cart and Costa Mesa's Pasta Connection. De- spite rain that delayed play about 90 minutes on Saturday, all the matches were able to be completed. "It was a great event and everyone had a wonderful time," Harris said. Winners in each division received a Los Cab-logoed windbreaker embroi- dered with "Club Champion" on them, and runners up took home sweatshirts bearing the Los Cab logo as well.
