4 ❘ LOS CAB LIFE ❘ MARCH 2020 P ickleball has become increasingly popular at Los Cab over the past year, and the club will become the epicenter of the fast- growing sport March 6-8 when it hosts the National Pickleball California Open. The event is expected to draw approximately 550 players com- peting in pro, senior pro and skill/age divisions for amateurs. Friday will feature singles play, with mixed doubles on Sat- urday and men's and women's doubles on Sunday. There also will be a charity pro-am on Fri- day night benefiting the Ameri- can Red Cross. The professional division is open to all players regardless of rating and features a $24,000 purse. The amateur competition is intended for 3.0-5.0 players and includes divisions for 19+, 35+, 50+ and 60+. Registration is open to USAPA members for $65 and includes a T-shirt and awards to the top three players and teams in each division. "Los Cab offers us a great loca- tion in the heart of the Southern California pickleball commu- nity," said Seth Burleigh, COO of Advanced Sports Media, which runs the National Pickleball Cali- fornia Open. "We like the private atmosphere and ability for our players to use the club's ameni- ties, and we also feel that the sunken championship court will make for a nice experience for the players and spectators." Spectators are welcome to at- tend the event free of charge, and pro matches will be livestreamed on Facebook. .................................................... > VISIT nationalpickleball.com/ california-open to learn more. ● UPCOMING READY FOR ACTION ■ NATIONAL PICKLEBALL CALIFORNIA OPEN AT LOS CAB AROUND THE CLUB ............................
