GOLD STANDARD ■ TENNIS CALCUTTA AND DRAW PARTY LIVE UP TO THE HYPE W hether you love dressing up in cos- tume or fierce compe- tition on the tennis courts, Los Cab's annual Tennis Cal- cutta and Draw Party are always among the most anticipated week- ends of the year at the club. This year's party held on Friday, October 18, featured a Renaissance theme, and nearly everyone came in costume for a night that featured dinner, dancing, casino games, raffle prizes and, of course, the selection of and bidding on teams for the week- end tennis competition. "Everybody had a great time and the party was a huge success," said Tracy Harris at the tennis desk, adding that prizes were awarded for the top three costumes. "We had plenty of really fun tennis and won- derful food catered by Pasta Connec- tion – and it was nice to have a new team win the Calcutta." Saturday and Sunday featured some intense battles on the courts, with Team Antique Gold (captained by Vangie Vanderhyden and Nicole Doan) taking home the top prize and Team Stonewashed Denim (captained by Amy and Tim Ching) earning runner-up honors. Loc Nguyen on team Antique Gold was named the Player of the Calcutta, as he won seven of his eight sets while playing line 3 and 5 to compensate for a player injury. In all, more than 150 members at- tended the party, while the Calcutta brought nearly 100 players to the tennis courts.
