GROUP FITNESS ....................... IT'S TIME TO FOCUS ON REACHING YOUR GOALS T he fall schedule of group fitness classes has been released, and it's brimming with op- portunities to get or stay in shape. Every day is filled with classes that can help mem- bers reach their fitness goals, whether they enjoy core and cardio training, cy- cling, Bodypump, or any number of the Zumba classes offered at Los Cab. In addition, there are a multitude of classes avail- able in the new yoga stu- dio, including Hatha and Iyengar yoga, pilates, and a unique TRX Suspension Training class that began in the Navy SEALS and helps develop balance, flexibility and core stability. New music and choreog- raphy for Bodypump and CXWORX classes will be re- leased in October as well, providing more incentive for members to hit the gym before the holidays. "Now is the time to re- ally stay the course with fit- ness goals," said Los Cab Fitness Director Marianne Grossman. "It becomes very easy to get derailed as the holidays approach." ............................................. > VISIT loscab.com/group- fitness to learn more. I f you haven't seen much of Peggy Pocher around Los Cab lately, rest assured there's good reason for her absence – and you definitely will be see- ing the club's Head Fitness Trainer around more con- sistently soon. Pocher, 57, un- derwent a total left knee replacement on July 17. She has been grinding through daily physical therapy and estimates that she's 75-80 percent recovered, which means it won't be long before she's back teaching fitness classes regularly at Los Cab. "I'm at a point where I have really good range of motion, but need to continue building strength and en- durance," she said. "I have been doing some strength training, specif- ically TRX, and will test myself with Bodypump class – as a student be- fore I know I can teach the class." Doctors typically expect it to take a full year before knee replacement patients get back to 100 percent, but Pocher is aiming to get there in half that time. She attributes the progress she has made so far to the active lifestyle she has led for so many years – in itself a great reminder for people of all ages as to just how im- portant fitness and physical activity is at all stages of life. "I've actually worked with some members on building their strength as they prepare to have knee replace- ment surgery," Pocher said. "I focus on core, quads, hamstrings, glutes and triceps – because patients will need to push themselves out of a seated position until they can im- prove range of motion in their knees. "If you don't move it, you seri- ously lose it. I train a lot of seniors. It's so incredibly crucial to stay ac- tive and in good physical condition, especially as you age." ON THE MEND ..................... HEALING POWER ■ PEGGY POCHER WILL BE BACK TEACHING CLASSES SOON TRX strength training is an important part of the recovery process. OCTOBER 2019 ❘ LOS CAB LIFE ❘ 3
