MARCH 2019 ❘ THE DIVOT ❘ 11 E l Niguel Country Club has a pristine practice facility, and one of the stars on the team who helps keep it that way is Daniel Dehaan. An Outside Services Attendant, Dehaan began working at El Niguel in August of 2018 as part of a program by the Mission Viejo-based organization Vocational Visions, which provides services for adults with disabilities and helps them find em- ployment opportunities. Dehaan has been working at the Club on Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 a.m.-12 p.m., where he can be found setting up the driving range, picking up balls, and keeping the practice facilities neat and clean. He says the two things he enjoys most about his job since coming on board are being outdoors and assisting members. "He always has a smile on his face and he's one of the hardest workers on the staff," said General Manager Kimberly Wood. "Vocational Visions has a fantastic program and it has been a pleasure to have Daniel on the team." Dehaan is no stranger to the golf course, that's for sure. The Laguna Beach resident grew up in Bozeman, Montana, and worked at Riverside Country Club in that city in addition to Stoney- brook Golf Course in Columbia, Tennessee, where he worked on the driving ranges and mowed tee boxes. Dehaan says he enjoys working hard and earn- ing money, but what most people don't know about his job is that he has to "get up early!" When it comes to sports, Dehaan enjoys golf, soccer, football and volleyball, and he also com- petes in swimming events in the Special Olympics. He also likes to keep busy in his spare time. "I like hanging out with friends, listening to music and watching sports," he said. As for golf, though, Dehaan likes being out in the sunshine and the challenge of putting. His favorite PGA Tour player? "Tiger Woods," he said. "He's so good."
