MEET WARREN GROSSMAN ......................................... IRON MAN ■ LIVING PROOF THAT HEALTH IS WEALTH G rowing up, Warren Grossman had no intention of forging a career as a health and fitness profes- sional. And while he was athletic as a kid, his health took a turn for the worse in his early 20s after ac- cepting a desk job and falling into an inactive lifestyle. But that has all changed. Now three years into being a group fitness instructor and personal trainer at Los Cab, he took a few minutes to share his fitness journey… Have you always been a fitness fanatic? Ever since I was young I played team sports – hockey, baseball and football. I was into skateboarding and rollerblading and stayed active through my teen years. When I turned 22, I took a sedentary job where I was sitting about 8-10 hours a day and gained 145 pounds, ballooning to more than 300 pounds. After first making nutritional adjust- ments and losing about 60 pounds, I finally made it back to the gym with encouragement and support from my family. After working out for a couple of months and seeing results, I was hooked. Working out became part of my daily routine. And I eventually decided to change careers and move into the fitness industry. What is your specialty at Los Cab? I am an NASM certified personal trainer, a NASM certified senior fit- ness specialist, a certified TRX (Total Resistance eXer- cise) instructor and a HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) instructor. I also instruct group boot camp classes and stride (treadmill) classes for all ages. What do you like most about your job? I like see- ing the change not only in a member's physical strength but also in their mental strength because they now have confidence. There's something so fulfilling about watch- ing someone's attitude change from "I can't" to "I can" and witnessing their progression. Why is fitness important for people of all ages? Health is wealth. Your body is your temple, so it's im- portant to take care of it from a young age. Wayne Dyer, a renowned self-development speaker and author, said: "Honor the physical temple that houses you by eating healthy, exercising, listening to your body's needs and treating it with dignity and love." Exercise is not punish- ment for the food you eat, it's a celebration of what your body can do. What's your No. 1 piece of fitness advice? Results don't happen overnight. I'm a walking testimony that it takes time and dedicated lifestyle changes. Don't get dis- couraged from bumps in the road, and remember that setbacks are only challenges in disguise. JANUARY 2019 ❘ LOS CAB LIFE ❘ 3 I t's not uncommon to feel intimidated about getting started with a fitness rou- tine. Los Cab fitness instructor Warren Grossman offers this simple guidance: "You don't have to be perfect out of the gate," he says. "Taking baby steps and making even minor changes is a great start. Being intimidated at the gym comes in multiple forms.
