OCTOBER 2018 ❘ THE DIVOT ❘ 5 CLUB NOTIFICATION L et's take a moment to go over our Board of Directors nominating process here at El Niguel CC. Per our bylaws, we have a Nominating Committee, which has been chaired by Jim Axelson over the past few years. His committee is composed of a minimum of two current Board directors, one past Board di- rector and two members at large. This year, the Committee has seven members, with both an additional current Board member and a mem- ber at large. The Committee works all year at cultivating potential Board candi- dates. The Committee's job is to sift through all of these members' qual- ifications, interests and willingness to devote time to serving the Club. An email was sent out last month informing all ENCC members that the Nominating Committee is looking for Board can- didates. If you haven't yet reached out to Jim Axelson with your interest or recommendations for qualified candidates, please do so. Every interested candidate will be considered. In addition, Members who the Committee feels would be qualified (even if they have not specifically expressed interest) are put on a "BOD prospects list." Typically, this list starts with 40-50 names and is refined based on Club committee experience, perceived abilities, and desire to serve. The Committee spends a few weeks contacting prospects and assessing capabilities and interest lev- els, after which time a final group is selected. The final group is interviewed by the Nominating Committee. Typically there are 5-6 individuals inter- viewed. At the conclusion of the interview, each can- didate is informed that it is the Committee's practice to place only three candidates on the slate, and that the most qualified people who are not on the slate that year are likely to be strongly considered in following years. The slate is posted 55 days prior to the Annual Meet- ing in both the Men's and Women's locker rooms. We believe this process has re- sulted in strong candidates and a well-rounded Board that strives to serve the interests of all members at ENCC. However, all members have the opportu- nity to run for the Board and have their names placed on the ballot. If a candidate secures 25 member signa- tures on a petition requesting inclusion, then that candidate's name, bio and photo will be listed in al- phabetical order along with all other candidates on the ballot. The vote is conducted during the four weeks pre- ceding the Annual Meeting, and the results are an- nounced at that Meeting. GETTING INVOLVED ■ A DESCRIPTION OF THE ENCC BOARD OF DIRECTORS CANDIDATE NOMINATING PROCESS All members have the opportunity to run for the Board and have their names placed on the ballot.
