JUNE 2018 ❘ LOS CAB LIFE ❘ 3 T he 116th annual Southern California Tennis Associa- tion Junior Sectionals are re- turning to Los Cab beginning June 16 and running through June 25, bringing the region's top players to the club for one of the country's most prestigious tournaments. Los Cab has played host to the event for approximately 40 years, and Trevor Kronemann, the Direc- tor of Junior Tennis for the SCTA, said that's no accident. "We love the centralized location and the helpfulness of the staff at Los Cab Sports Village as we work through 1,500 matches throughout the course of the event," Krone- mann said. "The club is always ac- commodating and inviting for the players and their families." Kronemann expects more than 1,000 players to compete in boys and girls divisions from 10U to 18U, as well as boys and girls 18U doubles, coming from as far north as San Luis Obispo, south to San Diego and as far as the high desert. The tournament is the longest- running and biggest sectional event in the country. "This is the most prestigious junior event in the United States that is not considered a National Open," Kronemann said. "The best players reside in our section, and it offers the top colleges in the country a great opportunity to re- cruit players here in Southern Cal- ifornia. The likes of Tracy Austin, Lindsay Davenport, Sam Querry, Steve Johnson, Pete Sampras, Michael Chang and many others have etched their name on this trophy and tennis history." ......................................................... > VISIT tennislink.usta.com to learn more about the organization. 116TH ANNUAL SCTA JUNIOR SECTIONALS ............................................................... Many registered 50 miles, and one swimmer checked in with a 100 and all participants re- ceived a commemorative T- shirt. March Madness was similarly successful, as approxi- mately 75 members reached their goal of 20 group fitness classes for the month. "Some members went way above and logged impressive numbers," said Fitness Director Marianne Grossman. "Our top finisher, Patricia Haber, logged 96 hours of classes! She is a past March Madness partici- pant who loves the challenge of taking lots of classes." ◆ ◆ ◆ > YO, ROCKY!: Los Cab mem- bers can enjoy a new group fit- ness option, as the club has added a Boxing/Core class Mondays at 7:30 p.m. Partici- pants will be outfitted in box- ing gloves and can channel their inner Rocky Balboa while working on hooks and jabs. ◆ ◆ ◆ > CAMPS FOR KIDS: Sports- manship, teamwork and an ap- preciation for sports and fitness will be among the themes em- phasized during this summer's Bounce Sports Camps for kids 4-13.
