JANUARY 2018 ❘ LOS CAB LIFE ❘ 3 IN THE GYM .......................... NEW GEAR ON THE WAY N ew fitness equip- ment is coming to the 10,000-square- foot Los Cab gym, which is frequented by approxi- mately 1,500 members and guests every day. The facil- ity includes about 60 ma- chines, and 15 new treadmills will be unveiled in the new year. "The treadmills are very similar to existing ones," said Los Cab's Mike Kane. "We're simply upgrading some of the older ones with newer models." The gym is part of Los Cab's 40,000-square-foot fitness center and includes a free-weight room as well as treadmills and other ma- chines designed to keep members in top shape on equipment that is con- stantly serviced in a clean, family-friendly environment. While members are free to utilize the gym at their own leisure, a variety of group classes are also offered. S ince opening in 1977, Los Cab Sports Village has served as a hub for people and families from every walk of life. But few people have been involved as closely with the facility than Herman Todd. A member since 1981, Herman began working with the club's fit- ness equipment 14 years ago, a job he held since his official retirement on Dec. 1. Herman was initially hired to clean Los Cab's fit- ness equipment, but quickly moved up to fixing the equipment, learning the ins and out of each machine until he was able to quickly and efficiently diagnose any problems that arose, said Events Coordinator Thao Le. "Herman became an ex- pert at his position and successfully kept our members safe," Le said. "He was hard-working and respon- sible. Member safety was his No. 1 priority and he was dedicated to keeping them safe from any ma- chine-related injuries." Herman has a wealth of memo- ries from his long association with Los Cab, one of the favorite being creating the Tri-Club with Fitness Director Marianne Grossman. The team completed in triathlons, bike races, trail runs and marathons. But the most enjoyable part about his tenure? "Being here," he said. "I love the sense of community and Los Cab treated me with respect in every way possible, and trusted me to do my job well." Herman will remain a member of the club along with his wife, Carol, who is captain of the Senior 1 Women's League. Along with stay- ing fit through cycling, swimming, outdoor activities and gardening, Herman plans on spending more time with his father in Hawaii, and his daughter, a physician currently doing her residency in Las Vegas. "Thank you, Los Cab, for taking care of me and for allowing me to work at this beautiful club," Herman said. "I am so proud to be a member. I have so many good memories here." New treadmills are coming soon A NEW CHAPTER .......................... FOND FAREWELL ■ HERMAN TODD REFLECTS ON HIS TENURE AT LOS CAB Herman Todd worked at Los Cab for 14 years.
