2 ❘ TEE TIMES ❘ September/October 2017 GRAND TRADITION ■ SUMMER PARTY KICKS OFF THE 60TH ANNIVERSARY OF EL CABALLERO C.C. ● PRESIDENT'S LETTER ••• In any organization, people grow, times change, op- portunities come and go. It is a fact of life that some- times the best people are faced with unexpected choices and change occurs. With that said, I am very sad to say that Chef Dan Cincis and Lauren Manoff have both accepted jobs that created opportunities too difficult to pass up. I know they are both very conflicted, they've loved being here and have become part of the family. And, of course, we are unhappy to see them go. I want to wish them both the best success and hap- piness in their new positions, and I certainly hope they'll come back from time to time to say hello. Lauren's last day was the Summer Party. Chef Dan's was Sunday, August 27. Our GM is already well on his way to making the necessary changes to ensure a smooth transition. ••• It's an exciting time for golf in the Southland. The US Amateur was recently conducted at Riviera and Bel Air country clubs. The Walker Cup will be hosted by LACC. San Diego CC also recently hosted the US Women's Amateur. And of course, we at El Caballero will be hosting the US Women's Amateur Four-Ball Championship in a mere eight months. In fact, the Senior Director of Competitions at the USGA, Mark Hill, recently paid a visit to the club to check it out. The photos of Annika Sorenstam and Se Ri Pak (both LPGA Hall of Famers) as champions of the LPGA event we hosted in the early 2000s made a great impression on Mr. Hill. I won't read any more into his visit, but we certainly hope the USGA will consider El Cab for other and more prestigious events in the future. For some reason, we at El Cab cannot seem to solve the issue of people not raking their bunkers. I just don't understand it. And short of placing cameras on the course to catch offenders, I just don't know what to do. Let's not let it get to that. Please rake your bunkers – and any other footprints you see – after you play your shot. If you have a caddy, don't assume he raked it, make sure he did. And if you see someone not raking, please report it to the Pro Shop. I'm sure the offenders are a small minority of mem- bers (and guests), but they stain the experience for the rest of us. Thanks for your consideration, and enjoy the rest of your summer! Hit 'em straight, – SCOTT COHEN, Club President I f you missed the Summer Party on August 12, you missed a fantastic night. Besides great food and entertainment, the night also marked the 60th anniversary of El Cab. And for the occasion, a special thanks is due to Ruth Harris who, with her com- mittee, spent tireless hours collecting memorabilia to put up a museum of sorts that runs the hallway between the dining room and the locker rooms. If you haven't seen it, please check it out. By the way, because we had our 50th anniversary 10 years ago, the hall was decorated with pictures and events from the last 10 years. So if you are upset there's nothing there from a longer historical perspective, rest easy, it was by design. :)
