ucked into the eastern Sierras at 7,900
feet in elevation, Mammoth is best known
for its mountain, of course. One of the
largest and busiest ski areas in the nation
sprawls across 3,500 pristine acres above the
City of Mammoth Lakes.
But all of its lesser-knowns are stellar, too, as
thousands of summertime pilgrims will attest.
A five-hour drive north of Los Angeles, Mam-
moth Lakes is truly a four-season recreation hub,
with many options available to adventure seek-
ers and urban escapists.
With the winter months in full swing, more
than 1 million skiers and snowboarders will
make their way to Mammoth Lakes in the com-
ing months, if recent annual numbers hold.
