A
s people continue to use
the Internet to plan for
trips, Visitortips.com is
becoming a key site for travelers
seeking information beyond
what's available in brochures.
To better track where these
visitors are coming from, Visi-
tortips.com is updating its ana-
lytics and tracking strategies in
the coming months. While
there's no timeline for the com-
plete transition, Josh Meyer,
Manager of Digital Media Serv-
ices for Certified Folder Display,
said his team is laying the
groundwork to make the techni-
cal changes necessary for more
advanced capabilities.
Meyer said the move came
about to benefit Visitortips.com's
partners and advertisers by pro-
viding information about what
users are actually doing on the
site and seeing how effective ad-
vertisements are on the site.
"That's an exciting thing for
us to be able to provide," he
said.
Currently, the site's tracking
data shows the basics – page
views, sessions, where people
are coming from and referral
sites, for instance. The new
tracking should show number of
times a brochure is clicked on,
clicks on links to advertisers'
websites and social media pro-
files, videos watched and photo
albums views, banner advertise-
ment clicks, logins and more.
Meyer said his team also
wants to be able to set up goals
and have the tracking determine
whether the site is more or less
effective in meeting those goals.
"That way we can provide
the information to the advertis-
ers and continue to improve the
site, see what works, and really
build on it from there – let the
analytics drive how the site
moves forward," he said.
The new tracking program
will also monitor one of the
site's newest features – the addi-
tion of language options. The
site currently does not track
whether people switch lan-
guages, but it will in the future.
Visitortips.com is always
adding new content as advertis-
ers sign on. Meyer said that
while brochures are Certified's
primary business, the website
is a supplement for travelers
when display racks are not
available.
"We want to give travelers
something fun to use where
they can feel like they're bridg-
ing the gap between their pre-
ferred medium – brochures –
and the medium that they actu-
ally have in their hand at that
time, which may be their mobile
device or maybe in a hotel room
on their computer," Meyer said.

to track activity on online brochures
