It's also about en- countering new challenges, pushing yourself and acquiring real- life skills. And many of those skills have a direct impact on business. In this issue of the Business Journal, we highlight several pro- grams in North County that have realized the importance of an education, both for individual students and for local businesses. From specialized programs that focus on criti- cal thinking rather than memorization to part- nerships with universities that guarantee admission for local North County students, it's clear that education – and the implications that ed- ucation in turn has for business and economic growth – is important to North County. Speaking of economic growth, several cities in North County are currently undertaking massive development projects that will spur increased revenue. We take an in-depth look at many of those projects in this issue of the Business Journal. We also visit dozens of local farmers markets in this issue, and discuss the impact of agricultural growth via those markets on the larger North County economy. And hand-in-hand with those markets is our discussion of North County cuisine. Our Q&As in this issue with several different restaurant profession- als are proof of the innovation, expansion and economic possi- bilities to come at the hands of North County restaurants.
