VIRGINIA CITY
L
os Angeles has long been known for its
mild weather and warm sandy beaches –
and of course as the international capital
of the film and tel-
evision industry.
By the early
1920s more than
80 percent of the
film industry in the
entire world could
be found in L.A., so
tourists to the re-
gion have always
been fascinated by
the Hollywood
side of the region.
But this thriving
metropolis is also
culturally diverse,
with a plethora of
art, good food and
adventure.

P
ikes Peak in Colorado is a destination
hot spot for adventurers and history
buffs alike. With mountains to climb
(think Pikes Peak Mountain at 14,115 feet
high!), historic cliff dwellings to see in Mani-
tou Springs, and the natural beauty of the
Garden of the Gods and Royal Gorge Bridge
and Park, there's something for everyone.

T
he Gold Rush of the 1860s brought the
first prospectors to Virginia City, Mont.,
and with them they brought new
wealth and little in the way of a justice sys-
tem. The result? Serious criminal activity, the
emergence of the Montana Vigilantes, and,
long story short, a ghost town that has been
preserved through the ages.
