2 • THE DIVOT | SPRING 2023 Driving for the 'Green' How ENCC is making strides to improve our financial future BY BRIAN PARKER, PRESIDENT I n the not-to-distant past, our Club found itself in a severely strained financial condition. Operating and capital account balances were rock bottom, member- ships were at record low and investments in the Club not able to be made. Preventative maintenance also was put. Financially, our Club was failing. Past President Charlie McBrayer was able to stem the tide in 2012 and a series of strong financial leaders, notably past presidents Steve Dixon, Sam Pavoni and Lyle Scheppele, have restored the Club's finances through stop-gap spending, building our operating account, and focusing on capital funds. Today our balance sheet is strong, our capital budget for the 2022-2023 budget season is $845,000, membership values are near all-time highs, and debt is being retired on time or ahead of schedule. Another factor in the restructuring of our finances is our association with the consulting group Club Bench- marking, a professional third-party consultant for Clubs across the country that we began working with in 2018. Beginning in January, Club Benchmarking has helped guide us in virtually every area of the Club. It was Club SHUN CHANGE - STAGNANT 25% Shrinking 1.
