This past year seemed to fly by, and when we recall all of the events that took place at El Niguel Country Club, it's hard to believe we could have squeezed them into such a short period of time. The golf course, under the outstanding leadership of Superintendent Matt Morton, has been elevated to a true championship track – and working with the Club architect, Matt has continued to implement small changes that are making it even better. A project with the county and other agencies to renovate the back nine stream is slated to begin this year, and other ongoing activities include moving the Tee House location to the driving range, and adding surround netting as well as a row of permanent matting that has been expanded to the right. The Golf Shop staff had a busy year with a full calendar of tournaments put on both by the WGA and the men's group. Chris Robles and Tricia Baumgardner were crowned Club Champions. The clubhouse rocked all year with more than 100 activities. In fact, the December events alone had to be catalogued in a booklet with the first page as the "Table of Contents." Clubhouse Manager Lori LeBard and her staff went above and beyond! Adding to these outstanding events, Chef Bruno and his culinary team have elevated the food production to the members through creative menus and great special events. We have had new social members tell us the reason they joined El Niguel was for the food! I am glad to announce that I have known your new CEO/GM Patrick Casey for many years and the Club is fortunate to have him. I know he is the one to lead the staff and will continue to elevate El Niguel Country Club. Arriving at the Club August 24, the day of the monthly Board of Directors meeting, I immediately felt both the professionalism of the Board and staff and the friendliness of the members. The Club is in great shape with a waiting list, and under the progressive leadership of the Board, is continuing to move forward both with new projects and more improvements in all areas of operations. Both Gerri and I thank the staff and members who have made us feel so welcome. It is going to be hard to leave, but we look forward to future visits. Thank you again and Aloha! Thanks for the memories! It's been a pleasure and an honor serving as the Club's GM • BY DOUG HOLTZ, INTERIM GENERAL MANAGER
