AUGUST 2019 ❘ THE DIVOT ❘ 7 BY CRAIG PLUMLEY, PGA A full field, perfect weather, excellent food and a pristine golf course greeted partici- pants on July 18-20 for The Niguel, one of the premier member-guest events at the Club. The event kicked off on a Thurs- day with the traditional Audi Quat- tro Cup qualifier. Shooting the low score of the day was the team of Ross Fippinger and his guest Ryan Schlegel, who edged out Jim Axel- son and his guest Mike Bouquet by a mere half a shot. For their efforts, Ross and Ryan will travel to Kiawah Island for the National Audi Quattro Cup Champi- onship next month. Good luck to both of them! Ross and Ryan also kept up their great play the following two days of the tournament to post an incredible 10-shot victory over runners-up George Saad and his guest Tommy Lacera. In winning the Net Champi- onship, Ross and Ryan became the first team to capture both the Audi Cup and The Niguel in the same year. Also walking away with champi- onship honors was the team of Eric Brougher and his guest Danny Lane, who won the Gross Championship. In addition to the two overall win- ners, congratulations goes out to the four flight winners: Chris Neria and Eric Bryan, Tom Maruscsak and Gavin Herbert, Russell Pflueger and Chris Thompson, and the previ- ously mentioned George Saad and Tommy Lacera. Rounding out our winning teams was the father-son duo of Bob and Mark Hancock, who captured the Derby Championship.
