ON THE COURSE
A
s our members get used to the
newly renovated golf course,
one of the things that the Golf
Shop staff will be keeping a
close eye on is pace of play. Maintaining
expected pace of play at all times will help
Members get the most enjoyment out of
our new and improved course, even as
we're all discovering the subtle differences
that the renovation has created.
During construction, we tried a few dif-
ferent methods for getting as many players
as possible on the course, and at times
those procedures slowed down play.
Now, with all 18 holes open, we're mak-
ing efforts to get back on track and estab-
lish standards that will benefit everyone.
The Club's expected time for 18 holes is
four hours and five minutes, plus an addi-
tional five minutes at the turn, and with
new GPS systems in all the golf carts, play-
ers will be able to see how their pace meas-
ures up. They'll also receive warnings on the
GPS system if they fall behind – a gentle and
friendly reminder to keep things moving.
With that in mind, here are four simple
tips for maintaining pace of play, and
they're all easy enough to implement with-
out having an adverse effect on the enjoy-
ment of your round.
1) Play ready golf. If you get to your
ball first and you are ready to play, go
ahead and play.
2) Start preparing to hit your shot
when others are playing their shots.
Find your distance and choose your club if
you are in the fairway, or begin reading the
green and lining up your putt if you are on
the green.
3) After completing a hole, proceed
to the next tee immediately. Tally scores
at the following tee box.
4) When two players are sharing a
cart, do not wait for your cart partner to
hit their shot before driving to your ball.
Drop your partner at their ball and when
possible, drive the cart to your ball and
begin to prepare to hit your shot.
These are all simple suggestions that
should be easy to incorporate into your
game. This will help to keep things moving
better on the course and make the experi-
ence more enjoyable for everyone.
