And if you're considering joining one of the offerings at Los Cab, here are a few tips to get you started: 1 Determine if you want to attend a class that is focused on strength train- ing, such as Bodypump and TRX, or cardio-focused classes such as Indoor Cycle, Stride and Zumba. 2 For those who wish to have a less-strenuous workout, Los Cab offers classes such as Balance, Strength and Cardio Basics and many aqua classes. "Yoga is also offered most days during the week, both in the morning and evening hours," said Fitness Direc- tor Marianne Grossman. 3 Find a fitness instruc- tor whose personality suits you the best. Some instructors like to do a lot of coaching and others are more low key. The type of music they play may help fuel your workout as well. W hen it comes to fat, the stomach gets a bad rap. Sure, we call that stub- born fat that accumulates around the midriff belly fat, but it's really the abdomen we're talking about. And that fat can be particularly stubborn to get rid of – or to keep from forming – as we get older. "As we age our metabolism slows down and we begin to lose muscle mass," said Fitness Director Mari- anne Grossman. "Particularly in the core, or trunk of the body, which in- cludes the abs, glutes and hips." With the loss of muscle mass, those areas begin storing extra fat, and as anyone who has ever tried to work it off knows, it can be very dif- ficult to lose. Fortunately, there are a number of fitness options at Los Cab that help burn fat, build muscle and strengthen the core. One of the classes that produces the best results is the CXWORX class. These 30- minute sessions focus on building up muscle in the core through a va- riety of moves, all of which include options that depend on a person's fitness and mobility. Ideally, whatever classes you take should be part of a well-rounded regimen, which includes diet and a consistent program that incorpo- rates cardiovascular and strength- training exercises. And keep this is in mind: stom- ach fat doesn't disappear overnight. To achieve a leaner body takes dedi- cation and time. "Remember that improving diet and sticking with exercise is a lifestyle change," Grossman said. "You're in it for the long haul, not just a few weeks or months."
